Plan G could be the new “Cadillac” plan
With the upcoming termination of Plan F in the year 2020, Plan G has been picking up popularity. Plan G works EXACTLY the same as Plan F, once you have me your annual deductible. In 2019 that deductible is $185. Once you have paid that in full each year, you will no longer see any out of pocket expenses just like the plan F. What’s even better is that Plan G is typically about $300-500 less per year (depending on your state).
That’s right, every day we speak to Medicare supplement clients that are paying around $400 more per year just so the insurance company can pay their $185 deductible for them. Why not pay it yourself and you can pocket the remaining $200-300? And just like the Plan F, you can go to any doctor or hospital nationwide that accepts Medicare, there is no network. All companies handle claims the exact same way too, so there’s no worry that something might not get paid. If Medicare covers their portion, the supplement plan must cover theirs as well.
So to give an example of what your cost would be with a Plan G, it would look like this:
You pay Medicare’s annual deductible = $185 and then…
Doctors visits = $0
Specialist visits = $0
Inpatient/Outpatient hospital = $0
Surgery = $0
Cancer = $0
You get the idea. Everything is zero.
Plan G also covers you for foreign travel. Medicare A & B do not cover you while you are traveling abroad, but Standard Medigap Plans C, D, F, G, M, and N provide foreign travel emergency health care coverage when you travel outside the U.S.
Covers foreign travel emergency care if it begins during the first 60 days of your trip and if Medicare doesn’t otherwise cover the care.
Pays 80% of the billed charges for certain medically necessary emergency care outside the U.S. after you meet a $250 deductible for the year.
Foreign travel emergency coverage with Medigap policies has a lifetime limit of $50,000.
